Chandler named 2025 Fudin Award recipient

About the Award

This award was developed in partnership with the Society of Pain & Palliative Care Pharmacists Foundation (SPPCP Foundation) in 2022 in the name of Jeffrey Fudin, PharmD, FCCP, FASHP, FFSMB. Dr. Fudin, an icon in the clinical pharmacy, palliative care, and pain management field, passed away in 2022 from colorectal cancer. Dr. Chandler is the fourth recipient of this award.

About Dr. Chandler

“Dr. Chandler stood out as a mentor who has dedicated his career to both patients and clinician development through leadership, education, and advocacy,” said Naomi N Bailey, PharmD, leader of this year’s award selection committee and a pain management clinical pharmacist at Boise VA Medical Center. “Former residents and students, many now colleagues, shared stories of the lifelong mentorship he has offered them and the compassionate care he provides his patients.”

Added SPPCP Foundation President Chris Herndon, "Dr. Chandler exemplifies the spirit and legacy of Dr. Jeffrey Fudin through his commitment to mentorship of pharmacists pursuing careers in pain and palliative care. For over a decade, Dr. Chandler has guided students, residents, and early-career clinicians — shaping the next generation of pharmacy leaders in this field. His dedication to education and patient-centered care reflects the highest ideals of our profession, and we are honored to recognize him as the 2025 recipient of the Fudin Award for Pain and Palliative Care Mentorship." Dr. Herndon is a professor of pharmacy practice at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.

Said Jeff Gudin, MD, "There is not a week that passes where I don't recall one of Dr. Fudin's clinical pearls. It appears as if this year's recipient, Dr. Chandler will leave a similar lasting impression on his students and colleagues.” Dr. Gudin, attending emeritus at Englewood Hospital and Medical Center, served as co-editor with Dr. Fudin of Practical Pain Management is an editorial advisor on pain management for MedCentral. “Dr. Chandler emulates Dr. Fudin and is certainly deserving of this award. What makes clinicians like Dr. Chandler – and all of us – special in caring for patients with pain is that we will do what nobody else will do in a way that nobody else can,” he added.
